The Fashion Frenze | Luxe Lifestyle | Self Help | Ways To Help Increase Your Value In The Work Place
I know what it’s like to work eight hours a day, seven days a week, just to make enough to pay bills. While in the work force, I struggled. I couldn’t afford a vehicle, constantly on public transportation. I could barely afford groceries, at some points had to make a decision between having enough bus fare to get to and from work or eating my next meal.
So I began asking questions and doing research. For seven years straight, I would be Googling new ways to make an income online. How to start this business and how to start that one.
I began to develop skills I never knew I had. I began to, as they say ‘hone my craft’, figuring out what I was good at. I began to learn new ways to cope; studying and developing new positive habits. Slowly but surely, I began to increase my income, significantly, both in the workforce and on my own.
With this formula, I went from making minimum wage to now, well over twenty dollars an hour. If I can do it, surely you can too. Let me share with you how I did it.
Increase your knowledge on the industry you are in. Write an impressive resume. Learn about the company you want to work for. Teach yourself everything you can and get good at it. You never know when what you learn today will become necessary tomorrow.
Sometimes expanding our skill sets allows us to cross over into more lucrative industries. The customer service skills developed at McDonalds, for example, can help you to land the new position at Comcast, which in turn puts more money in your pocket. Or let’s say the industry you are in doesn’t require you to use a computer, learn how to use one anyway just in case you need to be more flexible in your job selection. Have a multitude of skills that are conducive to your success in the workplace.
Get out of comfort zone
I was making minimum wage, although my skill sets were worth more, because of self-doubt. I allowed myself to settle for positions I was over qualified for simply because I needed a job. One day, I desperately needed a new job so I applied for every position I thought I qualified for, even when the pay range or job title seemed out of my league.
Within a few days, I received a contract position with the EPA here in Denver, only to shortly after make my way to a Corporate position and today I’ve solidified my experience in Bookkeeping and Office Managing. So I say all of that to say this, if you have the skillset, go for the position no matter how out of your league it may seem. Do not limit yourself. Go for what it is you want and do not look back.
Far too often do we keep people around us who are like carrying around dead weight. Far too often we keep people around who only want what it is we have to offer without reciprocity. Far too often do we keep people around who simply do not want similar things and whom are not going to similar places.
